They were very proactive without being burdensome and know how to serve efficiently. Food may take a little longer to get out to you outside as the chef does seem to prioritize bar patrons.ĭuring my visit, the staff were all extremely knowledgeable, kind, and diligent. Outside, Himitsu offers a more casual and relaxed atmosphere allowing you to enjoy the ocean breeze while consuming some of the best sushi you will ever eat. The sounds are like a symphony of knives hitting wood and the clanking of pots in the back. Sitting inside the sushi bar, you can see the mastery of the craft through Chef Aihara as well as enjoy a warm space that oozes traditional Japanese motifs as well as the ruggedness of a competent kitchen. Himitsu is a gem of a restaurant that elegantly fuses traditional Japanese sushi culture with Californian chicness. Show respect to the chefs though they are serving you, you are being treated to their art. Do not put soy sauce on any sushi as the chef has preseasoned it.ģ. Since we had friends from out of town, we want to have them experience Southern California dining with an ocean view.īesides the spectacular view, we had some good service from our waiter. We have been coming to the La Jolla Cover many times but never had a chance to try this restaurant. They also have a nice outdoor patio for you to enjoy the wine, SD breeze, and sunshine. I like that although it is a traditional fish market, it doesn't smell fishy at all. Also, the amount of the seafood in it was too basic. Unfortunately the cioppino was only decent, not only that but the large portion was quite small. Both had clean after tastes, yum! The grilled local sea bass was fresh and had a delicate mild sweet flavor, they really grilled it to perfection. The King tide from the west coast had a clean, crisp finish, and a plump springy texture. Sweet petite from the East coast were mild, briny, and not too meaty. I loved their oysters and grilled sea bass. We opted for half a dozen oysters, a local grilled sea bass plate (w/ brown rice & veggies) and a large cioppino to share. Service was good and fast, which was a big plus. We were hungry and craving fresh seafood!!! We stopped by this place, right after we finished kayaking near the secret cave in La Jolla.
